Maggie O'Neal
Hi! My name is Maggie O’Neal. I am from Cincinnati, OH. I am a graduate from the University of Cincinnati who is enrolled in the DAAP program trying and am working towards completing my BFA in Fine Arts. I create illustrations and concept art targeted at all ages. My work consists of stories about the people within the picture. My goal is to create art that brings people back to a simpler time, feel a sense of nostalgia, or just simply bring a smile to their faces. While most of my work is done digitally on the program Procreate, my preferred media form is Posca Pens, Gouache, and Watercolor. My work ranges from being very simple to very detailed so these mediums provide me with a wide range of usage. Eventually, I would enjoy doing illustration or concept art for different graphic novels and T.V./ Movie companies.
I did not start out as “the art kid” in school. To be honest, I have done sports since I was three years old. What drew me into the art world was one specific moment that made me realize I could do art for a living. This, was when I was watching the show Avatar the Last Airbender on Nickelodeon one night when I was in 6th grade. The show cut to commercial, so I was about to sprint to the bathroom before the show came back on, as one does, but something grabbed my attention. One of the creators of Avatar came on the screen explaining that he would teach us how to draw the main character, Aang. Then came the next commercial where they showed how they animated specific scenes in the show. My brain felt like it was about to explode! I thought to myself "you can actually DRAW these characters and make them MOVE!?" From that point on, I spent every waking moment glued to a pencil and paper. I was determined to make my future career be in Animation. Now that I am studying art, I slowly discovered that animation was not my calling. Illustration and concept art are what I am meant to do.
